Congrats on making it through the ~278670403801 days that was January. I don’t have any hot takes or anything new to say that hasn’t already been said, other than that if you’re struggling right now, you are not alone, and I am sending you love through the ether.
As I focus my time and energy on deeper work (hopefully more to come on those fronts soon!), some light endorsements for February:
Ducks. I feel like I really slept on how delightful these creatures are, and I can’t wait to greet this year’s crop of ducklings at Green Lake on my loop runs.
House shoes. Can be slippers, or can be real shoes that do not touch outdoor surfaces (gross). I am rotating between Lisa Frank house crocs and HOKA recovery slides.
Breathing exercises. Great for injured ribs and overwhelmed brains.
Cold plunges. You think you can’t feel anything? Walk into a cold body of water (but not in, like, The Awakening way).
Voice memos. Especially ones that exceed 5 minutes from a close friend.
The phrase “I don’t have an opinion on that.”
The phrase “I don’t know.”
The phrase “I want to think about that more.”
good things on the internet
Steve Buscemi in 30 Rock is an excellent palette cleanser for Steve Buscemi in The Sopranos 🛹
“I live in constant fear of the western descent towards facism…but I digress…The club is bumping. The ladies look good. The alcohol is flowing. There is much pain in the world but not in this room.” 🎉

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo: Read this in one sitting on a long plane ride. A perfectly satisfying historical fiction set during the Spanish Inquisition.
The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson: My first foray in Sanderson’s fantasy work and WOWWW the hype did not lie.
Starling House by Alix Harrow: A southern gothic with a fantasy twist that was a little slow-paced for me, but good overall.
